THE COLLEGE CHEATING SCANDAL-Why did it happen?

PARENT PEER PRESSURE IS RAMPANT

I’m not surprised at all to hear the news that people were using their wealth to get their kids into college.

Parents are giving into the pressure that their kids can only be successful if they go to the “good” universities. It’s a mindset that we have to change.

When parents go to these lengths to guarantee their teen’s admission to college, imagine the stress and pressure that the teens feel.

IT’S JUST COLLEGE!!

Some of you might see this comment and shake your head. What do you mean it’s just college? This is a matter of having a life of success. This is the most important thing that will ever happen in my teen’s life.

WRONG.

Where your teen goes to college is much less important than what they do in life, what experiences they have, the passion they discover, the interests they uncover.

COLLEGE IS ONE BLIP IN THE ROAD.

Yep. College is one small piece of the puzzle. Your child can get crappy grades and still be successful (Steve Jobs 2.67 GPA). Your child can go to a community college and be successful (Howard Behar, former President of Starbucks). Your child can skip college altogether and be successful (Richard Branson, he didn’t even graduate from high school!).

DON’T GIVE INTO PARENT PEER PRESSURE.

Take a deep breath, parents. Your child’s success is not determined by the college admissions process. There is so much more to life.
